Miss Hlengiwe Sondlane, a M.MedSc student at the UFS-NGS Unit won the first runner-up
at the UFS Faculty of Health Sciences and UFS Institutional level 3MT thesis competition
held on 18 September and 13 October 2023, respectively.
The 3MT thesis competition provides students with the opportunity to compete for prizes by
presenting their thesis in a concise manner, understandable to non-scientific audience and
professionals while demonstrating their presentation skills within 3 minutes. Miss Hlengiwe
3MT competition title was “RSV infection: A ravaging virus masked and exacerbated by the
COVID-19 pandemic”.
In her words, “Emerging victorious in this competition serves as a source of continued
motivation for me. I take great pride in this accomplishment and express my gratitude for the
opportunity. This triumph will inspire me to participate in other highly competitive platforms in
the future”.
She expresses her profound gratitude for the unwavering support provided by her
supervisor, Prof. Martin Nyaga, and the members of the UFS-NGS Unit.
